BPTRG was set up in 1986 by a group of private tenants who wanted to help each other with their housing problems and to campaign together for better local services and better laws to protect private tenants. It is a registered Charity and relies on donations and grants to continue its work.
The Group is still run as a membership organisation, and private tenants remain at the heart of the organisation. The Group employs a small team of professional staff, and our Board of Trustees include both housing professionals and tenant representatives.

Our Campaign Group priorities are to improve local enforcement of standards in private tenants' homes and to persuade the Government to introduce better regulation of the private rented sector.
We encourage all who support our aims to sign up to our private tenants’ CHARTER. Most of the million private tenants in London are without one or more of these basic rights and we are determined to change this.
