Over twenty years of campaiging for more rights and better conditions have produced some major victories. These include:
•Licensing laws for bedsits and shared houses
•A cap on rent increases for regulated tenants (mainly pensioners)
•Protection of private tenants' deposits
But in recent years, as the scarcity of social housing has increased, conditions in the private rented sector have actually got worse.
Our Housing Advice Centre is seeing more tenants living in slum conditions and more tenants of rogue landlordords than ever before.
We need YOUR HELP to reverse the trend!
We are planning a number of activities to help to raise awareness about the appalling conditions so many private tenants endure. We have lots of ideas about what needs to change and we want ot hear your views too.
